Birth Weight Scales
I'm a Baby Weigher, created around 1930 in Nottingham by Boots.
Baby weighing became integral to a more medicalised postnatal system in the Twentieth Century. Weight his important in identifying norms, and therefore abnormal weights which may be lead to the identification of medical problems, but these norms have also led to increased anxiety around attaining 'normal' baby weight / size. Of course baby weights are also a key part of how we announce a new child to friends and family, "Elliot was born this morning at 7lb 6oz". This is the bit I like the most.
For one week I'm taking baby weights from Nottingham QMC Hospital and putting then on my Facebook fan page. I'm hoping some people will put the weights of baby's that they know up too.
